How To Have Weight Loss Goals That Can Be Achieved

By: Maudelle Almario

Weight loss tips are a dime a dozen. As can be expected, many people will set weight loss goals based on these, but only a rare few people can actually achieve their objectives. What makes this true? This can happen when you started with unrealistic goals that never had a chance of being realized.

Goals that are set in the beginning that have no possibility of being reached, are just a way of losing the race before you even start. The following are several ways to set achievable goals that will bring about the results that you want.

Set your short-term goals: This will usually just span seven days from the time the goal was set to the time progress will be measured. Doing this over many times, you weight loss program is broken down into short increments. When you make your short-term plan only as long as you know you can do it, then there are no unrealistic goals, so you know you can make it. Anyone should be able to keep up a plan for one week, and when you see your progress, then it will inspire you to go on for another week. Restating everything as by the week should make it much easier, because 30 days sounds like a long time to be doing something. This is definitely an easier goal to think about. Or it may be that you will aim for a brisk walk of 15 minutes after dinner each day in the following week instead of saying that you will exercise every day. Determine measurable goals: Try combining the quantity aspects to the quality factor of your goals. This will allow you to have an objective measurement of your progress as well as other things. One example of this is to add the number of pounds you want to lose (quantity) in a certain time frame instead of the goal to lose weight (quality). So instead of striving for less food consumption (quality), try to eat an extra serving of something healthy such as vegetables, fruit or salad (quantity) for the day. In this way, you can track your progress.

Be aware of your progress: You do need to have a way to keep track of your progress from your first day until you have achieved your desired weight goal. You can record your targets and actual results in a diary. You could use something simple like a notebook with written entries or a computerized database, whichever you prefer. Some other kinds of entries that could go into the diary are any mistakes you made, lessons learned or things that have proven effective in motivating you. Think of it as building on your gains. In order to be successful in your weight reduction process, you need to have thought out the entire process very carefully. Simply make a list of your aspirations, call a friend to aid you in your journey and proceed.
